You may not know it yet, but you need a few simple essential oil hacks in your life. As a questionable odor wafts up from your teenager’s shoes, you fight to get a brush through your daughter’s hair, and you wonder how the three of you can possibly finish homework before it’s time for bed, it’s tempting to just start banging your head on the table in despair, but essential oil hacks offer much more constructive solutions.
You Know Life Hacks. Now Introducing Essential Oil Hacks!
Life hacks have become very popular on the internet because they provide strategies and techniques that help people manage their time and activities more efficiently, usually without requiring much money. Ideas like using paper clips to organize pesky electronic cables and differentiating keys with colored nail polish are creative, helpful, and soaring in popularity. But not as many people realize the incredibly valuable life hacks that are possible with essential oils. See for yourself how these ideas can make your job as a parent significantly easier.
Essential Oil Hack #1: Get Rid of the Stink
Parenting can be messy- and stinky. While it might take a few days or weeks to find the time to wash the dishes and laundry that keep piling up, this essential oil trick at least makes it simply to keep your house smelling nice. All you need is some type of purification blend, a few ounces of water, and a spray bottle. A purification blend will contain oils that kill bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungus while also neutralizing unpleasant odors.
PURIFICATION BLEND: 18 drops Lemongrass, 8 drops Tea Tree, 15 drops Rosemary, 8 drops Lavender, 2 drops Clary Sage.
There are a number of ways you can utilize this blend. Add to water in a spray bottle and spritz on your furniture, add a few drops to your laundry, or spray onto cotton balls that you place into stinky shoes. The essential oils will legitimately clean and purify all surfaces they touch, which means they will neutralize those awful odors and help your home stop smelling like sweaty socks!

Essential Oil Hack #2: Get to Sleep
If your kids are wired and can’t sleep to wind down for bedtime, essential oils can help you out. Grab your bottle of Lavender and either diffuse it in the bedroom or add it to a few drops of coconut oil and rub onto the bottom of your kids’ feet. You can also call in reinforcements by adding one drop of Frankincense to the Lavender for an extra boost of relaxation. The aromatherapy will even help you relax as well!
Essential Oil Hack #3: Escape Your Exhaustion
In addition to being messy, parenting is exhausting! You might not get to bed until midnight, only for your alarm to start ringing unforgivingly at 5:00 AM. Keep Peppermint essential oil nearby, and mix a drop or two with a dab of coconut oil to rub on your temples and neck as you try to wake up. Peppermint is incredibly invigorating, so it will help you clear the fog and embrace your energy for the day to come. Orange essential oil is also a great choice for energy and productivity.
Essential Oil Hack #4: Control Crazy Hair
Busy moms know the struggle of trying to get ready in the morning while also getting kids out the door. A hot shower and a blow dry just aren’t always possible! Fortunately, there’s a very simple essential oil hack to keep your hair soft and radiant without the long prep time. You can make this ahead of time and store it in your bathroom to use when you’re short on time.
Dry Shampoo With Essential Oils: ¼ cup cornstarch. 2 drops Cedarwood, 2 drops Rosemary, 1 drop Tea Tree. For dark hair, add 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder.
All you need to do is shake a small amount of the dry shampoo into your hair, massage into your roots, and then comb through. The result will be soft, refreshed hair that you’re not tempted to hide under a hat.

See that? With just a few bottles of essential oils and a bit of creativity, you can overcome many of your common, everyday challenges to become a parenting rockstar.

Your Tire Care Cheat Sheet

Unless you are a mechanic, you might not feel totally sure about how to care for your car’s tires and keep them in the best condition. Vehicle terminology appear confusing unless you work with it on a daily basis, so this guide will give you the basics of everything you should know regarding tire care.

Check Air Pressure

Above all, air pressure can determine the longevity of your tires. PSI, our pounds per square inch, is the unit of measurement applied to the air pressure in your tires. While overinflated tires ride harshly and are easily damaged by road irregularities, under inflated tires hurt gas mileage and lead to loss of steering and cornering stability.

The correct air pressure is critical, so read your owner’s manual for the optimal PSI level and check tire air pressure once per month. Just be sure to check that pressure once your vehicle is “cold” and hasn’t been driven in at least three hours.

Alignment and Balance

Alignment refers to the suspension of your front and rear tires. Since alignment determines the way your vehicle handles, poor alignment can cause major problems like irregular tire wear and crooked driving trajectory. Misalignment is most likely to occur after an accident or hitting a big pothole, so have it checked after any type of strong impact.

While alignment deals with suspension, balance relates to the way the tires are mounted. If one area is heavier or lighter than the rest, then the tire is off-balance and mounted incorrectly. It’s important to check for balance any time a tire is replaced or alignment is corrected, since poor balance can place too much stress on the tires and cause premature wear and tear.

Rotation and Tread

Think about the strain the road places on your car tires every single time you drive. This pressure leads to tire wear, which is unavoidable. Rotation can extend the life of your tires by moving tires into different positions to help the tread wear evenly and thus keep the tire alive longer. Experts recommend rotation every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

By staying current on this type of tire maintenance, you’ll save yourself a great deal of hassle and money.
